A History of Avila Gardens

Established in October of 2000, Avila Gardens is a beautiful residential home designed for active seniors and features a myriad of both activities and services. Avila is sponsored by the Carmelite Sisters of The Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, a community of women religious who blend the spirit of Carmel and its life of contemplative prayer with the works of the apostolate. In joy and simplicity, the Carmelite Sisters serve the Church through education, retreats, health care, and child care.

Avila Gardens Residence for Active Seniors was officially opened on October 15, 2000, the Feast of St. Teresa of Avila, our patroness. By 2003, Avila Gardens was at full capacity, complete with a chapel and resident chaplain presiding over daily Mass, a tremendous grace for its happy residents. Avila Gardens is small enough (36 rooms) to maintain a family atmosphere, yet large enough to provide plenty of variety for active seniors. Avila Gardens warmly receives men and women over the age of 55 and it is nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. It is a home that is full of amenities and spiritual benefits which offers a charming environment for singles or couples. Everyone who discovers Avila Gardens falls in love with it. It has become the premier Catholic residence in the San Gabriel Valley.
